Helloooo Readers!!
Recently Gena Showalter announced a continuation (a full new trilogy) to continue her “The Original Heartbreakers” trilogy from back in 2015. *happy dance*
This new trilogy will have a waterfall type release schedule all by end of year: (thank you sweet impatience~)
- Can’t Hardly Breathe – August 29th 2017
- Can’t Let Go – October 31st 2017
- Can’t Get Enough – December 5th 2017
Admittedly, I have read most of her series and this one fell to the wayside UNTIL NOW!
(What can I say, I’m more inclined to paranormal romance than modern romance)
So I caught up to speed within the month and then got this book to read on date of release!! woohoo~~
- Overall Rating: 3.5 Stars
- Plot: 3 Stars
- Character Development: 3.5 Stars
- Dialogue: 4.5 Stars
- Writing: 3.5 Stars
The above ratings are a harsh breakdown – I did thoroughly enjoy this book and would recommend it to anyone that leans towards the Romance Genre. :0)
Lemme tell ya why~~
I was in a book rut… a serious rut (a full month with no reading)…. and this series dug me right out of it!
Gena Showalter did a nice mixture of angst and romance. Fluff with tough. It was a modern romance with sass~
This is the love story of Dorothea and Daniel. (hehe D&D)
Dorothea’s character is bullied her whole life and fell in love with Daniel in high school when he came to her rescue…… it’s also the same day he broke her heart. (cue angst)
I love the main heroine, Dorothea — I would daresay she has the best growth out of the female heroines in the series so far. (Harlow gives close competition though – she’s book #2 from the original trilogy) I’m a sucker for the underdog and Dorothea is so lovable.
Now for the Hero, Daniel, I actually liked him more in the other books when he was a side character. Not that he wasn’t good here, but I thought the other books showed more humor and loyalty? Maybe that’s just me. I had high hopes I think. haha
I sooooo wanted Daniel to get a book~ he was introduced in book #2 and had steady involvement in #3. I am happy we got to see his story~ The hormones of the two characters though *fans self* VERY compatible, hands down. haha
Something to note: This is also an introduction book in the sense that it’s building the future step stones in other relationships. So while the main story is D&D – you get a lot of good build up for future story lines.
This story had me invested from the beginning and the book flew by quick. Easy to read and easy to love~
(Making Plot 3 stars and Dialogue 4.5 stars)
This book, even though it says #4, CAN be read out of order from the other 3 – as it does involve different characters for the most part and only vaguely references the preceding books characters.
Absolutely would recommend if you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted, positive read. :0)
